Xiandi's Place
Just a few of them
Published on July 6, 2010 By Xiandi In Community

I just wanted to take a few minutes to point out (and thank) a few skinners who I think are the best at what they do, have enriched my life, helped me improve my skills, and are just all around great people. In no special order....

I. R. Brainiac : You inspire me. When I first discovered Windowblinds, I was (and still am) in awe of yor creativity and skill. You have the creative imagination that I aspire to, and the skill to pull off the most 'out there' skins. I want to be like you.

2of3: You help me more than anyone. You are really more like a brother to me than a friend. I appreciate your honesty when critiquing my skins, your attention to small details has made me a better skinner. Your friendship means a lot to me. Even though our styles are very different, I have learned a lot from you.

vStyler: Your skins are simply amazing. I admire the perfection of them and the subtle ways you enhance them. You have taught me a few things that have helped to improve my skills, and I aspire to have that perfection in mine.

Skinhit: In my book, you are the best icon skinner on the planet. You have a unique style that I can pick out of any gallery at a glance. One day, I hope that people can see a skin and say "Xiandi must have made that one." before they even look at the author. I hope that someday you'll be able to get back into it. I miss you.

theAVMAN : Time after time, you come up with some of the most original ideas. Sometimes I just sit there and stare at something you made because it's so cool looking. You have the 'wow' factor in your work, and I admire that.

Murex: You may not even realize it but I have learned so much from you. Just by picking apart your crazy PSDs, I have acquired skills and techniques I didn't think I could ever do, until I saw them in your work. You have helped me out countless times and you are very much appreciated. You are a true friend.

RedneckDude: You are a DX skinning machine! You have made countless skins that match Windowblinds, and I think that is a niche that needs to be filled, but I think that your original works are the best. You are a great friend to have, and have helped me out in so many ways, so many times, that I would not even be able to list them all. You're the best.

CarGuy: Your Dreams are simply amazing. Although I don't plan on learning how to make them (who knows what the future holds) I think you are the best at what you do, and you deserve a spot in this short list. You have an eye for beautiful things and the talent to make it happen. Most of the dreams that I have are made by you.

Philly: I know you don't consider yourself a skinner, but you deserve a place on this list too. You are a perfect example of what a great community member should be. You have an eye for complimentary skins and your choices for additions to a Suite are always spot on. You have a positive attitude and it makes WC a better place because you are in it.

--------------

I know I have missed some people...if I named all of you, this would be a huge post, lol. Feel free to post who your skinning heroes are.

Awesome post, Cindy! Very nice.

Here's a partial list of those whom I admire, and what for:

Z71: For teaching me and motivating me. For picking my skins apart and making sure I do it right. He has done more for me (from a skinning standpoint) than any other person to help me grow as a skinner.

WebGizmos: For his precision in making docks that match WB skins.

Messiah1: The one who motivated me most to begin skinning. I miss seeing his contributions to the galleries.

vStyler: For the constant push to go beyond my comfort zone, and for his detail eye.

essorant: For the speed at which he works.

Xiandi: For her creativity.

AVMan: For his creativity and willingness to help.

RedneckDude: For always being willing to help make complimentary skins for a theme.

Thank you so much, Cyndie.

You know that you are a great source of inspiration to me as well. Your fearless skinning style blows me away It makes me step back and say "wow.....I would never have thought to do that!"

Having you as a friend has enriched my life both skinning wise and personally and I'm lucky to have you around

Not many skinners want to be like me...I'm honored...its easy tho...a partial lobotomy is sufficient.

Great list(s).  Good friends.  Awesome skins.

Philly: I know you don't consider yourself a skinner

Considering that I haven't made one skin kind of hard not to.

I appreciate very much being included on your list , thank you for those kind words.

I believe it's a given that without the fine, outstanding, talented and skilled skinners in the community the rest of us wouldn't be here.  Thank you folks.

"Xiandi must have made that one."

Dunno....I can do that already...so your wait is over.

Great list....

Dang Xiandi, this is awesome! And a hard act to follow, as usual from you. I consider you a true friend as well, and I have also learned countless things from you, including how to make half a windowblind...lol.  (That sounds bad, but you know what I mean...).

I would actually have a similar list as you with a few additions. Also in no certain order....

Brainy, for pushing a green PDJ to do better. I dunno how many times I wanted to cuss you during the Knot Vista DX period when you kept making me redo things...lol. But you directly forced me to get better.

2of3, same as Brainy, always pushing for excellence. Nit picking the crap out of my DXes so they meet your standards, thank you.

Zubaz, for just always being there when I had problems, trying to fix things, and for helping to get a few of my skins preinstalled with DesktopX 4.0.

vStyler, for having faith in my work and always saying yes when I ask to do a DX for your skins, which are excellent.

Murex, you have taught me several things. I love the detail in your work. I cut my skinning teeth on Murex DX themes.

Mirsguy, for doing such awesome work, you inspire me to be better.

AVMAN, for pushing the envelope. Your work is on the cutting edge! You inspire me!

sViz, where do I start? You are the reason my DX themes are anywhere close to being good. I aspire to be like you. I think you are a scripting genius. I rely on you heavily, and you always do your best to help.

Wizard1956, for always being quick witted, and making me laugh. And for putting with me when testing for me. I am not the easiest to please. Wiz, you are one of my few true friends. I can't say enough.

Doc, you stay on my "list", as I do yours....

I too, am sure I've missed someone, but you all know I love ya!   As much as some like to complain about WC and it's site problems, this is THE place to be, and the friends we have here will always outweigh any forum issues, or site problems.

If I didn't have you guys to turn to when in need of a friend, I'd be screaming EGADS all day long!!!

AW Shucks Cyndie you got me all  Twitterpated and Flummoxed.  All I can say is thank you and it's been an honor to have you pick apart my crazy  PSD's.

I consider you a true friend as well. You know I love YA..  (Even if you do crack the whip every now and then).

I have learned a lot from you too...  That's what we do. Help and learn from each other.   I'm pretty sure I could pick out your work with out seeing your name.

Great lists  by all.
Here's mine: All you skinners past and present who have shared your time and talents with others.

I need to include  everyone else who is still aboard the good ship WinCustomize. It may be taking on a bit of water right now but smoother sailing must surely be ahead.

*just shut up and man the pumps

Everyone I've met here,I've helped or have helped me are also heros. Without members and visitors there wouldn't be a WC.

Hey Cyndie, great list and a very, very nice thing to do!

on Jul 06, 2010

woohoo! I'm first!...oh,you said in no special order...woohoo!...I'm #1 in no special order!

Several years ago in Oz there was a kitchen manufacturer who [legitimately] claimed to be "Number 1 in the industry.".....as they were.....they were number 1 in the ombudsman's report of shonky businesses in the kitchen manufacture Industry, with more complaints than anyone else....

My List....

among others....

Xiandi:  A member I admire for her artistic ability...her skinning tenacity and all 'round top notch community demeanour.  You represent our fairer sex in a way that makes me proud....

I too, think you have your own distinct style that is very 'spottable'...even with it's diversity....from the very cute 'Denim' to the very complex 'Armageddon'...(great name that.... )

My list of heroes virtually extends to all members who have given it a go...and uploaded what they can to the site....and those who feel more comfortable in a support role...both...help make this site..........but among my particular heroes...would have to be the geniuses of windowblinds....v....and IR....their work is amazing and unique....and dedication to perfection...astounding....and their contribution to the community over the years...inspiring.........watching v's projects develop in detail from the first graphic to final upload...has been an eye opener....a mixture of creativity...frustration at limitations...work arounds....watching it all come together beautifully....and a healthy dose of laughter along the way....thanks for making it such fun...

With the incredible depth of talent....friendships....and characters on this site.....I would love to see this place really humming again....we can do it...all the ingredients are here...

a great list/post Xiandi...

Having been in the business for over a decade I've seen them come and go. Some only briefely light up the skinning-sky, some are just a quick 'blip' on the radar. Some stay in the sky as ever lasting suns, never fading away.

Three that I myself will forever remember are Mark Mcquillan (aka hippy), Ian Black (aka voo(doofreak)) and Chad Rumbut (aka crumbut).
Sadly none of them are publicly active anymore.

Thanks guys, for making skinning what it is today for me. None of the active skinners of today will ever reach your level.
